Transformative Digital Art from Digital Photographs
Abstract Art
I began experimenting with my photographs from the moment I was given a digital camera in 2003. I just could not stick with the original image, no matter how beautiful! My digital pieces are inspired by my travels in the Rocky Mountains, Desert Southwest and Europe. I start off with a photograph that resonates within me from my global travels; a joyful memory that infuses each unique creation. My early work was inspired by the wildflowers and wildlife of the American Southwest. Today I still work with wildflowers and wildlife but also with photographs of buildings, architectural wonders like The Hive in Kew Gardens, the glass designs of Dale Chihuly, and the stained-glass windows of European gothic cathedrals. Any sight that arouses my wonder or curiosity is a possible image to transform digitally back home on my computer
Landscape Art-Heightened Reality
In my travels I have always photographed the incredible landscapes I drive and hike through. In the last year I have begun to photograph the incredible clouds of New Mexico and now use many of these cloudscapes from my back door to transform my panoramas into a “heightened reality’.
Fun
I want to make viewing fun and let the viewer figure out the original photographs and come up with their own interpretation for each piece. I'm always amazed by what people see in my pieces and realize that everyone looks at a design in a unique way. No two people see the same image in the same way. My designs can vary from simple transformations to incredible intricate and complex transformations created from multiple images and hundreds of layers before a final image appears and a name pops up in my mind that beautifully describes it. At this point I am homing on the final creation.
